Car Lighting Upgrades: LED, DRLs and Ambient Lighting Explained

Lighting is one of the most cost-effective ways to modernise an older car and improve safety. But it is also an area where cheap, poorly chosen parts cause more problems than they solve. Here is how to do it properly.

 

Exterior LED upgrades

 

Swapping tired halogen bulbs for quality LEDs gives a brighter, cleaner, whiter light that improves night-time visibility.

The catch: many cars need CANBUS-compatible bulbs, otherwise the dashboard throws "bulb out" warnings or the LEDs flicker. We only fit road-legal bulbs that are correct for your car, so there are no error messages and no MOT issues.

 

A word on headlight bulbs

 

LED headlight "conversions" are popular but legality depends on your vehicle and how they are fitted — a badly aimed bulb dazzles other drivers and can fail an MOT. We will advise on what is legal and safe for your specific car rather than selling you something that causes problems.

Before upgrading bulbs, check the lenses. Cloudy, yellowed headlight lenses scatter light and look tired. Headlight restoration polishes and re-seals them so your existing (or new) bulbs actually shine through clearly — often the single biggest improvement for the money.
